Calcium Oxide
Limestone is extracted from quarries or mines. The extracted stone is selected according to its chemical composition and optical granulometry, is calcinated at about 1,000°C in different types of lime kilns to produce quicklime.
Lime is used to raise the pH and lower acidity of the soil. The purpose of applying lime is to neutralise acidity which in turn helps improve the structure of the soil. Lime also supplies crops and plants with the element calcium.
Lime helps to improve soil aeration allowing better rooting strength of pastures and crops.
